There are many ways to adopt a child such as: through private adoption, independent adoption, foreign adoption, and foster care. There are many children of all ages in the foster care system that are eligible for adoption, and this is the most cost-efficient means of adopting a child with little to no cost involved because federal and state adoption programs cut down on the usual financial obstacles.
The top priority of the welfare system is to reunite a baby with the birth parents safely. If the baby is removed from the home, the mother or parents have six months to a year to comply with certain stipulations while the baby is placed in foster care. This time can be extended, depending on the parents’ progress. Therefore, foster children of infant age are usually not eligible for adoption. An exception is made for babies who are legally abandoned by their mother or parents to a Safe Haven or Safe Surrender program, often within days of their birth, or even house in the case of the mother or baby testing positive for illegal drugs at birth. Birth parents are given two weeks or two months (depending on the state) to regain custody if they have a change of heart. After this, the baby is free to be adopted.
